Erin Akrobetu (formerly Pennebaker) is a native of Jackson, MS where she received her BFA in Modern Dance from Belhaven University in 2011. Prior to graduation she spent the summer training with Alivin Ailey in NYC and in 2012 she began dancing with Inlet Dance Theatre. Through her 8 year career with Inlet, she was able to perform nationally, choreograph on the Inlet Trainee and Apprentice Program, teach Erick Hawkins technique, Non-Traditional Partnering, Improvisation, Ballet, and was the first in the company’s history to hold the title of Teaching Artist. While in Cleveland, Erin has had the privilege of teaching and choreographing for Cleveland Dance Project, Savelli’s Dance and Martial Arts, Cleveland City Dance, Absolute Dance Company, and held master classes at Belhaven University. In 2019 she became the resident choreographer and movement instructor for the Academy for the Performing Arts.

Our first session is with the talented Tyler Ring!
Tyler Ring is a native of Muncie, Indiana, where he graduated summa cum laude with a BFA in Dance from Ball State University. He has also studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Visceral Dance Chicago. As a performer, Tyler has danced new works by James Gregg, Banning Bouldin, Sidra Bell, Amy Miller, Dianne McIntyre, Monica Bill Barnes, and David Shimotakahara. After one season as a performing trainee with Thodos Dance Chicago, he danced with GroundWorks DanceTheater in Cleveland from 2017 to 2019 where he also served as Interim Education Outreach Director coordinating a curriculum of dance for inner city elementary schools in Northeast Ohio. Additionally, he spent one year as an Adjunct Professor with the Cleveland State University Theater and Dance Department creating new work for his students. Tyler presently serves on the faculty of the Dance Institute at the University of Akron.

JAM Dance Academy is proud of its JAM Masters Series, now Sunday Sessions, which is designed to educate students and parents alike in the performing arts.  Throughout the year, JAM will promote master classes taught by the area's most qualified teachers from Universities and professional companies in the techniques of Ballet, Contemporary, traditional Indian Dance, traditional Japanese, Bollywood, Modern Dance, Ballroon and more.

The series will also include instruction in theatre hair and make-up, injury prevention, choosing the best college for dance, pointe shoe preparation...just to name a few. These classes may be open to the public and some have a minimal cost to attend. 
 
We look forward to providing the best possible education to our students and parents and welcome any ideas of interest.  Thank you for being a part of our journey!
