JAM Dance Academy is excited to announce its auditions for the third annual production of Tchaikovsky's magical holiday ballet, "The Nutcracker."


Under the direction of former Ohio Dance Theatre principle dancer and JAM Dance Academy's Artistic Director, patrons can enjoy the magic of one of the most beloved holiday classics...The Nutcracker!


The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the story written by E.T.A. Hoffman, which was adapted into a magical ballet accomplanied by Tchaikovsky's most famous score!  Brave soldiers, a fierce Mouse King, glistening snowflakes, and a handsome Prince are just some of the characters that welcome the beautiful Clara to the Land of the Sweets....Fun for every age!


The 2018 performance of The Nutcracker will be held at the Elyria High School Performing Arts Center on December 1 & 2, 2018.

Hannah Jew

Adult Clara / Sugar Plum

Hannah’s training began at Classical Ballet School of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She has spent summers training at Tulsa Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. In 2015, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet Performance from the University of Oklahoma. During her time in college, she had the opportunity to perform in Eisenstadt, Austria with Oklahoma Festival Ballet. She has also performed with Contemporary Dance Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Ballet, Dayton Ballet, Ballet Hispanico’s second company, BHdos and Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company.

Omar Humphrey

Nutcracker Prince / Mouse King

A native of Dallas Texas, Omar began his dance training at 14 years old with Happy Nia Dance Theater Productions under the instruction of Dereque Whiturs. He also attended Booker T. Washington high school for the performing and Visual Arts. Omar has had the unique privilege to train at some of the most prestigious dance institutions in the United States. Through scholarship, he has trained extensively at the Alvin Ailey American dance theater, LINES contemporary ballet summer program, Bates Dance Festival etc. Omar received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance from the University of Oklahoma in 2015. Since graduating, he was a dancer with Cleveland’s Verb Ballets for the past 3 years, where he has had the opportunity to perform both nationally and internationally. In addition to Verb, Omar has done projects with artist in Northeastern Ohio in spaces including Dance, film, and theater. Currently, he has taken a career shift and now works as a growing cook in the Zack Bruell Restaurant Group.

Kate Webb

Snow Queen / Dew Drop

Kate Webb is currently a company dancer with Verb Ballets of Cleveland, OH. She is also a dance and fitness instructor, arts administrator, and model around the region.  Kate grew up studying and dancing as a trainee with Richmond Ballet, the state ballet of VA. She found her passion for dance through an outreach program called Minds in Motion. She attended numerous intensive programs around the United States, such as Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Boston Ballet, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Upon graduating from Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts, she attended Butler University on both dance and academic scholarships. While dancing with Butler Ballet, she performed in Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. After fulfilling her degree in three years, she graduated cum laude in May of 2015 with a BS in Dance-Arts Administration and high departmental honors.

​While dancing with Verb Ballets, Kate has been privileged to receive many performing opportunities. Some of her favorite parts include the leading role in Charles Anderson’s Aposiopesis, Snow Queen in Denise Gula's The Nutcracker, Tinker Bell in Pamela Pribisco’s Peter Pan, and “The Purple Woman” in Heinz Poll’s Songs Without Words. She also enjoyed performing in Anthony Krutzkamp’s Similar while on tour with the company in NYC.

​As an instructor, Kate strives to engage a broad audience of all ages and socioeconomic classes. She has taught in community centers, dance schools, competition studios, gyms, and private residences. Kate also uses her arts administration skills to build and promote these programs.

​When she’s not in the studio, Kate models and collaborates with area photographers, musicians, retail establishments, and medical offices. She spends her free time attending cultural events, exploring new places, and hanging out with her family, friends, and dogs.

Ben Shepard

Herr Drosselmyer /  Mouse King

Ben Shepard is a company member of Verb Ballets and recent graduate of Butler University. He is from Annapolis, Maryland where he began dancing at age 11. He started his training at L’ecole de Danse and the pre-professional program at Ballet Theater of Maryland. Ben has attended summer intensives at the Kirov Academy of Ballet (Washington, D.C.), Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Washington Ballet, and Alonzo King Lines Ballet. He then went to Butler University to pursue a degree in Arts Administration and Dance (B.S.) where he performed with Butler Ballet most notably as Rothbart in Swan Lake; Snow King, Waltz Cavalier, and Arabian Soloist in the Nutcracker; and the Second Movement Soloist in George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments. Since moving to Cleveland, Ben has thoroughly enjoyed his first season with Verb Ballets. Ben is excited to be performing with JAM for the first time and he is so grateful for how welcoming the Cleveland dance community has been to him.
